ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) – Police are still looking for a driver who struck and killed a pedestrian on Chambers Road near Green Valley Drive Thursday night. St. Louis County police had the intersection blocked off for hours while they investigated.
Investigators say a maroon sedan, possibly a Lincoln, was heading west on Chambers when it may have run a red light while speeding and hit a pedestrian. Police and witnesses say the scene was horrific.
Devastated friends and family identify the victim as Deandre Wallace, a sophomore at Riverview Gardens High School. He was head commander in the Navy Junior ROTC and also involved with his church.
Meanwhile, residents of this unincorporated community, just east of Dellwood, feel more needs to be done to keep that intersection safe. For one, they say there are few street lights until you hit the Dellwood city limits.
Neighbor Victor Turner says, “We have very poor lighting within this community. The timing on this red light is short.”
Michale Johnson said “I saw a burgundy colored car going fast, real fast. People speed on this road, a lot of people do.”
If this intersection sounds familiar there was another fatal hit and run there a year and a half ago. In that case, a teenage boy also died, and the driver was located, and charged.
