As one of the most dangerous and deadliest stretches of road in Downtown St. Louis, “South Broadway” is located south of Busch Stadium with several popular bars and restaurants. For years, this poorly lit street with habitually speeding vehicles has caused numerous accidents and pedestrians to fear for their lives.
The Bicycle and Pedestrian Initiative’s goal is to become a leading voice in advocating for the implementation of pedestrian and bicyclist safety measures throughout St. Louis.
In 2013, the City of St. Louis was presented with a comprehensive and strategic plan called Vision Zero, however, Mayor Slay and others rejected the plan because resources weren’t available.
Traffic deaths and serious injuries to pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists can be prevented. Cities across the U.S. are implementing Vision Zero plans and setting target dates to achieve zero traffic deaths.
