Traffic deaths and serious injuries to pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists can be prevented. Cities across the U.S. are implementing Vision Zero plans and setting target dates to achieve zero traffic deaths.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol (Link City Crash Report 2012-2014) of traffic crashes reported in St. Louis between 2012 and 2014, there were an average of 39 fatalities and 233 total serious injuries reported each year.
Nationally, according to the latest 2913 NTSB statistics, pedestrian fatalities account for 14% of all traffic crash fatalities. Nationally, there are 4,735 pedestrian fatalities.
With the hit and run death of Bapi Gupta on June, 27, 2015, he was the 13th person in St. Louis to be killed by a hit and run driver in the first six months of the year.
