Two teens arrested in connection with fatal hit-and-run

Screen Shot 2015-11-03 at 8.10.43 PM ST. LOUIS — An 18-year-old has been arrested for the hit-and-run death of a St. Louis man that occurred June 28.

Dontae Jackson has been charged with involuntary manslaughter, leaving the scene of an accident and making a false report after he struck and killed 50-year-old Ashish “Bapi” Gupta. Gupta was crossing the the street June 28th in the 700 block of South Broadway when witnesses say he was struck by a black Mercedes.

Gupta was transported to SLU Hospital following the accident, but succumbed to his injuries July 5.

Police arrested a 15-year-old girl July 9, believing her to be the driver of the vehicle, but have released her after further investigation.

Police also arrested 17-year-old Trena Williams for making a false report. Williams and Jackson falsely told police that the 15-year-old girl was driving the Mercedes that caused Gupta’s death.
